2019, Oil on canvas, 81x 100 x 2 cm (WxHxD)
The "Portrait" is a further development of the "Gestural Abstraction" in the artist's artistic work. The line in "Gestural Abstraction" is straighter and interpreted in abstract geometric compositions. In "Portrait" the stroke has been transformed into amorphous, curved expressive movements with random moments. The line is painted on planes with contrast. A monochrome background carries and balances the expressivity. The face is painted on layers of oil paint. This enables the photorealistic effect and representation of the form. The particular appearance of the face leads to the art of omission or "less is more".
