2017, Oil on canvas, 26 x 56,5 cm (WxH) incl. white wooden frame with rear panel
Christ taken from the cross is shown here. The model is a Pietà by Michelangelo Buonarotti. The left edge of the picture borders the figure, respectively cuts the arm at the top and the foot strictly speaking in the lower left corner. This Christ seems to have already arrived in a heavenly world, or are the spheres above and to the right of the head stellar bodies?
One of these spheres could also be a nimbus - but perhaps it is the Trinity. This is clearly left to the viewer's imagination. The figure, however, is very strong and very well worked out, almost every rib, every muscle can be touched, so without a doubt the feeling of the earthly is created.
The picture comes with a self-made white wooden frame with rear panel.
About the artist
In addition, painting, always starting from the clear line, became more and more important. At this time the artist Oscar Asboth supported him immensely in artistic respects, which led to a strong, above all human development.
Today his stylistic elements are part of Metzger's latest paintings. For some time now he has also been working together with his wife Birgit on the "Gesamtkunstwerk". From interiors and fashion to theatre sets and performance projects. Core and starting point, however, are always his drawings or paintings, shown at about 100 exhibitions in Austria and abroad, among others for the Austrian Foreign Ministry. Most recently collaboration with the Austrian Ski Association.
Martin Metzger lives and works in Kitzbühel, Tyrol, Austria.
